UK manufacturing company collapses into administration | UK | News

A UK manufacturing with a “reputation for excellence” has entered administration. Administrators are battling to save autostructures UK, which trades mainly from Telford in Shropshire.

The specialist manufacturer of parts for the automotive and highway industries played a pivotal part in helping JCB make the world’s fastest tractor.

Autostructures UK worked with JCB engineers to build the lightweight chassis which saw the manufacturing giant’s Fastrac model reach a peak speed of 153.771mph.

A JCB supplier for 30 years, autostructures UK supplied more than 22,000 chassis over a decade.

The company, which also hailed itself as having a “reputation for excellence”, entered administration on March 27, according to The Gazette.

It came after joint administrators Christopher Pole, Ryan Grant and Sam Birchall from Interpath were appointed to parent company, moveero Ltd, two days earlier. Moveero makes wheels, rims and hubs for farming and construction vehicles.

Its UK arm became insolvent on March 26, putting some 250 jobs at Sankey Holdings, moveero Ltd. and autostructures UK at risk.

The business dates back to 1908 and was part of the automotive division of multinational GKN, but was sold in 2020 to private equity firm, Aurelius.

Interpath said moveero group continues to operate profitably and the insolvencies in Britain have not affected the rest of the group’s businesses in the US and Denmark.

It said the UK business faced significant operational challenges due to a weakened off‑highway market, downward pricing pressure and strong competition from rivals.

Inerpath said in a statement: “As a result of these ongoing challenges, the directors of the businesses have taken steps to protect the interests of creditors by appointing administrators.

“This will allow the UK businesses to continue trading while buyers for the businesses and their assets are pursued, with all staff retained during this period.”

David Geraghty, CEO of moveero, said: “Against a difficult economic backdrop, we have worked tirelessly over the past 12 months to improve the financial performance of the UK business.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of our brilliant team and also the support of our customers who have provided us with funding in recent days which has given us the additional time we need to continue to explore the options available.”
