Drivers on the M8 are facing traffic chaos this morning after a huge stretch of the major UK motorway was closed, with a massive city centre in “gridlock”. Overnight works on the eastbound section between junctions 18 and 15 in Glasgow have overrun.

Traffic Scotland said access to the oute from junction 16 Craighall, junction 18 Charing Cross, and junction 19 Anderston will remain closed. No timeframe has been given for the reopening of the junctions. The chaos has led to lengthy tailbacks around the Cowcaddens, Kingston Bridge and Kinning Park areas. Drivers have now taken to social media to vent their anger and frustration, with one claiming the “whole of Glasgow city centre was in gridlock” this morning.
