Alexander-Arnold gives perfect response to Liverpool announcement | Football | Sport

Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed his emotions perfectly after learning of Andy Robertson’s impending exit from Anfield. The 27-year-old right-back posted an image on his Instagram story of the duo celebrating the club’s Premier League championship triumph in 2020.

He wrote alongside the picture: “Legend forever [red loveheart emoji].” Liverpool fans will undoubtedly remember the Scottish international in that manner, having secured two Premier League titles, two league cups, an FA Cup and Champions League, alongside a FIFA Cup World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield.

It’s a genuine end of an era with Mohamed Salah also departing Anfield this summer. Both Salah and Robertson had been associated with transfers away from Liverpool, before their departures were announced.

Revealing why he’s departing Liverpool this summer, Robertson said: “Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.

“But I know football moves on, I know teams move on and I think now is the time for me to move on and go wherever my next move is and wherever my career takes me.” Robertson will be remembered as one of the club’s finest-ever left-backs and the reaction from his fellow players on social media to his exit speaks for itself.

Alexis Mac Allister wrote: “Thank you for everything Andy! Top guy, leader and player.” Fellow defender Conor Bradley posted: “Legend [crying face emoji].” Former Reds midfielder Jordan Henderson also expressed similar sentiments, writing: “Legend. What a guy [red loveheart emoji].”

Jamie Carragher also commented: “Legend.” While Caoimhim Kelleher said: “What a man, proper legend.”

Robertson reportedly has four clubs vying for his signature ahead of his contract expiry, with Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli all eager to secure the defender’s services.

“It is never easy leaving a club like Liverpool,” Robertson said. “It has been a huge part of mine and my family’s life for the last nine years, but I know football moves on. I know teams move on and now is the time for me to move on.

“I will always look back on amazing memories at this football club. I have put my heart and soul into the club and when I got my chance I just wanted to make the people within this club and the supporters proud of the left back they are seeing performing week in, week out.

“I know my journey is coming to an end. It has been an incredible journey but I won’t let up. This club means everything to me, the fans mean everything to me, the people connected with the club mean everything to me and I think I owe to them that until my very last day I will give everything to the football club which I have done for the last nine years.

“The nine years, I will look back with a big smile on my face and, yeah, it’s been a hell of a journey.”
