Europe is filled with stunning holiday spots but too many of them are becoming overcrowded. Instead of heading to the bustling streets of Spain, Italy or Greece, there’s one country that’s perfect for a quieter break.

Lithuania is a destination that Brits are all too often missing out on. With sunny weather and stunning landscapes, you’ll want to look into Lithuania for your next trip. While some countries are trying to reduce tourists, others are looking to welcome more visitors.

Across Europe, in recent years, there has been increased talk about visitor caps, cruise ship bans and tourist surcharges in popular holiday spots.

But for Lithuania, there’s a plan in place to promote international tourism campaigns – inviting global tourism.

In 2024, Lithuania adopted its first national Tourism Roadmap, which aims to double tourism’s contribution to the economy by 2030.

The strategy appears to be gaining traction as international arrivals grew by 4.4% in 2025, while Lithuanian airports recorded their highest passenger numbers on record, reports say.

Lithuania is home to stunning forests, beautiful lakes and vibrant culture.

Its traditional heritage is a key factor in bringing in travellers.

Vilnius was named European Green Capital for 2025, partly due to its extensive green spaces and sustainable urban mobility initiatives.

One person who visited Vilnius on Tripadvisor said: “First time visiting Vilnius and I had heard it was extremely beautiful with much of the old town being in the Baroque style.

“My friends and I spent around four hours walking around the streets and looking at the numbers churches, the town hall and cathedral.

“I was certainly not disappointed! Really beautiful city with plenty to see! I could have easily spent longer, but we were there on a day trip. Definitely would go back!”

Lithuania is an underrated European destination offering stunning UNESCO-listed buildings.

The country is an affordable and largely safe place to visit. Visitors can explore city districts and enjoy traditional cuisine, all while being just a stone’s throw away from rural scenery.

If you’re looking for a pretty destination to visit this summer, Lithuania could be worth adding to your list.
