Add one everyday item to suitcase to ‘stop clothes creasing’ | Travel News | Travel
Going on holiday is always thrilling, but the packing process can be one of the most nerve-wracking aspects of the trip. Beyond remembering all your essentials, maintaining your garments in pristine condition proves incredibly challenging – particularly when cramming numerous items into limited luggage space.
Nevertheless, one clever woman has recently revealed a brilliant trick that could revolutionise everything. The TikTok user, going by ruc952, claims there’s an effortless method to achieve “crease free” clothing whilst travelling, and it revolves around inserting one everyday household item between your garments in the suitcase.
The resourceful traveller suggests that tissue paper is all that’s required to achieve packing perfection. With the holiday season at its peak, this tip will undoubtedly appeal to countless holidaymakers.
In her video, she revealed: “I just want to explain how I’ve been packing for trips for many, many years and this is guaranteed – no matter how long the clothes are in the suitcase. When you get them out, they won’t be creased at all.
“So, basically, this tissue paper, which I’ve been using for years, and it always keeps nice – so the first investment is a pile of tissue paper but, if you look after it, it will last for a long time.”
Showing her technique in action, she continued: “First layer of clothing going in, and the first layer of tissue paper over the garment. Next item – again, tissue on top, and the remainder of the dress over.”
She repeats this process for each piece of clothing, and then adds a final touch. Once the suitcase is packed, she stuffs some tissue paper into the sides of the case.
According to her, this helps protect the clothes when the suitcase jostles during the flight. Who would have thought something so lightweight could make such a difference?
Does it work?
As unconventional as this hack may seem, it genuinely works. Unbeknownst to many, tissue paper can help prevent creases in clothes, particularly when packing for travel.
This is because it serves as a cushion between layers of fabric, reducing the friction that leads to wrinkles. If you insert tissue paper between folds, especially with delicate fabrics, it assists in preserving a smoother appearance.
It also helps to prevent deep creases from forming and can be used in conjunction with other methods for improved results. For instance, some people prefer to roll their clothes to avoid creasing.
However, there’s one crucial detail to remember before employing this trick. Generally, it’s recommended to use acid-free tissue paper, as this prevents colour transfer and fabric degradation.
Experts suggest that it can make a significant difference to blouses, shirts and lightweight cotton items. If you’re about to embark on a holiday, it’s a hack well worth giving a go.
Before setting off, it’s also advisable to check whether your hotel allows the use of irons, as some accommodation may prohibit their use.
