‘Amazing’ thriller with sudden twist now on BBC iPlayer now | Films | Entertainment

A thriller centred on vertigo-inducing heights and pure adrenaline has earned widespread acclaim from viewers, and it’s now available on BBC iPlayer. Fall, which premiered in 2022, is a high-octane survival film following two friends, Becky and Hunter, who scale a 2,000-foot abandoned television mast in California’s Mojave Desert to conquer their anxieties.

When the ladder gives way, they find themselves stranded on a minuscule platform without water, food or mobile signal, with a stomach-churning descent on all sides. On film ratings platform Rotten Tomatoes, the one-hour-47-minute production boasts a respectable 79% score from critics and audiences, with many commending the narrative’s unexpected turn and the vertiginous sequences. One review said: “I was on the edge of my seat the whole time during this movie it was definitely an adrenaline rush. Im scared of heights too so that made it worse, sweaty palms the whole time! Great twist at the end too, definitely worth a watch!”

Another said: “Exceptionally good… perfect blend of twists… great production.” A third said: “You’d think how interesting is a movie about two girls climbing a tower, and it’s awesome. Great movie, the story is OK, but it’s all about the thrill ride that it is.”

A fourth wrote: “Absolutely amazing. A bit unrealistic at times, however kept me on the edge which is very difficult with me as I’ve watched quite a lot and usually nothing gets me. I definitely did not expect the twist it had and totally made me gasp!”

Others issued a caution, including one reviewer who stated: “The suspense and acting were great. If you have a fear of heights, like me, I recommend breaks when watching. It’s a good story of survival and moving forward when life sets us back.

“However, the movie was honestly too long for what happens. There’s a decent twist but, the ending is pretty cold. It could have had a little less clichés so overall, three out of five.”

Another commented: “I literally had to turn away and walk out of the room at times because the height scenes scared me so much… love it! One of my favourite movies – kept me so on edge.”

Others highlighted that portions of the film felt implausible and this affected their enjoyment, as one viewer remarked: “The director builds a tense setting, but I have to agree with other reviews that there are some very unrealistic scenarios all over this movie. The leads do a good job.”

Another concurred as they noted: “If you want to put aside all of the completely improper climbing techniques that make this movie very unrealistic and irritating, there are some very tense moments in this movie.”

Another criticised it sharply, writing: “Don’t know what was worse, the unrealistic parts or the worse acting I’ve ever seen. This movie made me actively more mad throughout the dumb scenes. Don’t watch unless you want a horrible watching experience.”

Fall is available on BBC iPlayer.
