Amazon’s latest Android tablet is on sale for £59, but not for long

If you want to get your hands on a new tablet but don’t want to spend the earth, there’s a deal currently running on Amazon’s latest Fire HD 8 that could fit the bill.

Right now, the Fire HD 8 Android tablet is available for just £58.99, a huge saving on its usual £89.99 RRP. That’s an incredible price for a device that can handle streaming TV and movies, surfing the web, sorting through emails and playing games.

Amazon says this is a “limited time deal”, but doesn’t say how long this price will last, so if you want to take advantage you may want to do so sooner rather than later.

As the Fire HD 8 is an Amazon device, you can also use it as a Kindle for reading Kindle books, which is possible on the screen as 8-inch is fairly compact, and won’t feel too large to do so on the go unlike other tablets.

This Fire HD 8 model is specifically a refurbished one, which means it has been previously bought and returned to Amazon, most likely within the 30 day return window. Amazon claims these gadgets have been “professionally restored to like-new condition”, with full quality checks, cleaning, new packaging and even the same warranty you would get if you bought the also-available new version of the Fire HD 8.

But that new version currently sells for £99.99, so you’re saving a big chunk by going for this refurbished model at just £58.99.

The £58.99 Fire HD 8 comes with 32GB storage, which is not an awful lot. However if all you need a tablet for is streaming video on all your favourite apps such as Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and BBC iPlayer, it’ll fit the bill, as you can install the apps but stream conten tover WI-Fi rather than storing files on the device.

If you do have a music or video collection though, you can expand the tablet’s storage via the microSD card slot with a card up to 1TB (sold separately).

Amazon says the Fire HD 8 will keep going with “all-day battery life” whether you’re watching shows, playing games such as Candy Crush and Minecraft or browsing social media apps such as TikTok, Instagram or Facebook.

One thing to note, which applies to all Amazon Fire tablets, is that you cannot download and install any Google apps. This is a restriction of Amazon’s FireOS, and means this isn’t the tablet for you if you need Gmail, Google Drive, YouTube, and other Google services.

But if that doesn’t bother you, this tablet is a true bargain that you can even use to control smart home accessories like smart bulbs thanks to the inclusion of Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

Add to that the ability to make video calls over apps like Zoom, and you have a lot of tablet for not a lot of money. Just bear in mind the price could go up soon given this is a limited time deal.
