Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor could be ‘flight risk’, royal expert claims | Royal | News

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is a “flight risk” and will “not face justice”, a royal expert has claimed. The former Duke of York, who has lost his titles, honours and home and now has the status of a commoner, was arrested this month on suspicion of misconduct in public office during his time as the UK’s trade envoy between 2001 – 2011.

He was held in custody for 11 hours before being released under investigation. The arrest came after the latest tranche of Jeffrey Epstein files revealed that he may have shared confidential information with the convicted sex offender. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing. Andrew’s arrest brought a fresh wave of humiliation for the Royal Family, who have tried to distance themselves from Andrew.

Now, a royal commentator said that he won’t be charged, but he is a flight risk. Historian Andrew Lownie told Daily Expresso: “No, I don’t think he will face justice. I think he’s a flight risk.

“They didn’t take his passport away. My sources tell me that he’s so confident that he won’t be charged, he doesn’t think he needs to worry about disappearing.”

In his new column for the Daily Mail, the former Prime Minister, who was also Mayor of London between 2008 and 2016, spoke about their first “bizarre” meeting together at Buckingham Palace. He claimed Andrew wanted to “knock down” one of London’s most famous buildings – Battersea Power Station. The iconic Grade II* listed building is located on the south bank of the River Thames.
