Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea’s Champions League opponents confirmed | Football | Sport
After a hectic couple of days of play-off action, the full last-16 line-up for the Champions League has been confirmed. The eight victorious teams from this week’s action will now join the eight sides that qualified for the last-16 automatically via the competition’s league phase.
Perhaps the biggest shock of the play-off round came in Milan, where Bodo/Glimt not only defended their 3-1 advantage from the first leg against Inter Milan, but went on to build on it at San Siro. It’s already being described as one of the biggest shocks in Champions League knockout history, with Bodo having masterminded a magnificent run to the knockouts.
Bodo’s reward for downing the Italian giant could be a rematch with Manchester City, who the Norwegians defeated earlier this year. They’ll play one of City or Sporting in the next round, as they look to continue their fairytale run in the competition.
As for the rest of the Premier League clubs in the last-16, here are the confirmed two teams they could face in the next round…
Arsenal – Bayer Leverkusen or Atalanta
Newcastle – Chelsea or Barcelona

The draw for the last-16 will be completed on Friday, along with the paths for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and eventually the final. Newcastle are the only team out of the six Premier League sides to qualify for the last-16 that would play the second leg of their tie away from home.
That isn’t to say it would be terminal for any hopes of winning the competition, given last year’s winners were forced to go through the play-off stage. Paris Saint-Germain had endured something of a nightmare league phase, and after beating fellow Ligue 1 outfit Brest in the play-offs, the French side downed Liverpool in the last-16.
Following matches against Aston Villa and Arsenal in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, they eventually beat Inter Milan in the final to win the competition. A positive omen for Newcastle and Eddie Howe, perhaps?
