At least seven killed in plane crash after emergency landing | World | News

A plane crash in Mexico has resulted in at least seven fatalities, as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred in central Mexico during an attempted emergency landing on Monday, December 15, with a minimum of seven casualties reported, according to Adrián Hernández, the Coordinator of Mexico State Civil Protection, reports The Mirror.

The surrounding area saw hundreds evacuated following the crash, due to a subsequent fire outbreak. The accident transpired in San Mateo Atenco, an industrial region three miles (5 kilometres) from Toluca airport and approximately 31 miles (50 kilometres) west of Mexico City.

The aircraft had departed from Acapulco, situated along Mexico’s Pacific coast.

Hernández revealed that the private jet carried eight passengers and two crew members, but only seven bodies were recovered hours post-crash. He stated that the plane seemingly attempted to land on a football pitch but collided with the metal roof of a nearby establishment, igniting a substantial fire.

The crash is currently under investigation.

Ana Muñiz, the Mayor of San Mateo Atenco, informed Milenio Television that the fire necessitated the evacuation of around 130 individuals in the vicinity.
