Beatrice and Eugenie should keep titles for one reason, expert says | Royal | News

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie should keep their royal titles despite the deepening scandal surrounding their father, a PR expert has warned — saying that removing them would create a fresh controversy rather than putting the existing one to rest.

Lynn Carratt, said that the sisters should not be made to pay for their father’s actions. “Stripping them of titles would risk creating public backlash,” she said. “Their roles as royal princesses and as private individuals carving out their own careers and identities remain separate from Andrew’s controversies.”

She warned that any move against Beatrice and Eugenie’s status would backfire. “Removing them could create more headlines for all the wrong reasons and inadvertently draw attention to the very issue they have no part in,” Carratt said.

“Retaining their titles maintains fairness, respects their personal achievements, and avoids unnecessary complications for the Royal Family.”

Where things stand

According to a GB News report, the debate over the York sisters has sharpened since their father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested last month on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The Government has not ruled out action on his place in the line of succession, but no official move has been made against his daughters’ status. Buckingham Palace confirmed in October 2025 that Beatrice and Eugenie would be unaffected when Andrew relinquished use of the Duke of York title.

Both princesses sit in the line of succession — Beatrice ninth and Eugenie twelfth — and neither carries out full-time working royal duties on behalf of the King, though both remain active participants in wider family occasions. Because they follow their father in the order of succession, any parliamentary debate about Andrew’s position inevitably draws the broader York family into the frame.

Recent developments

The sisters have found themselves in the headlines regardless.

Princess Eugenie stepped down as patron of Anti-Slavery International on March 8, though the charity made no public connection between her departure and her father’s situation.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
