Benidorm holiday horror for Brits as streets ‘flooded’ after torrential rain | Europe | Travel

The typically sun-soaked Spanish resort of Benidorm was transformed over the weekend as the heavens opened and torrential rain came down.

Tourists were forced to buy umbrellas and duck for cover, but many were still intent on making the most of their holidays as bars remained “bouncing” into the night.

Local YouTuber ‘Benidorm By Ana’ uploaded footage from Saturday (September 21), saying: “Autumn officially arrived in Benidorm town. There’s raincoats, umbrellas, and quite a busy atmosphere.”

Ana walked viewers through what Benidorm looked like during the rain storm. People could still be seen shopping and sitting down to eat despite the grim conditions. Some donned waterproof ponchos so they could go about their holidays without getting soaked.

Ana’s clip also showed lightning illuminating the grey skies above, with thunder rumbling in the background.

She went on: “Those who are tourists, you can definitely tell, because they are wearing raincoats. Us locals mostly use umbrellas for these purposes.” Ana also said the streets seemed just as busy as “any other Saturday” in Benidorm.

The rain fell in the evenings too over the weekend, as shown in a TikTok video uploaded by @Benidorm_grumet.

He showcased how the rain had caused “flooding” on Benidorm’s roads and paths. However, he insisted the town’s popular nightlife spots were “bouncing” despite the weather.

In his clip, he sat down at one of the resort’s popular bars. Although the outdoor seating was abandoned, left sodden by the conditions, there was a considerable queue at the undercover bar.

Reacting in the comments section below @Benidorm_grumet’s video, which was uploaded three days ago, several Brits boasted about conditions back home. One said: “Get yourself to Clacton it’s sun and 26C.”

Another wrote: “It’s been lovely back here in Scotland roasting and no rain all week lol enjoy the rain.” And a third said: “I left there this morning at 6am it was hammering down! nicer back at home.”
