Benjamin Sesko ‘reaches transfer agreement’ after Man Utd and Newcastle submit bids | Football | Sport

Benjamin Sesko has agreed personal terms with both Manchester United and Newcastle United as the transfer saga surrounding his future reaches a climax, according to reports. RB Leipzig have now received bids from both Premier League clubs after the Red Devils submitted an offer worth £65million plus £9m in add-ons on Tuesday morning.

Newcastle had been the more aggressive of the two suitors before the latest developments, tabling two formal approaches to the Bundesliga outfit. Leipzig rejected the first, worth £65m plus £5m in add-ons, and have not yet responded to the follow-up proposal of a guaranteed £70m plus bonuses.

An outcome is expected imminently as Leipzig weigh up the next steps, while United and Newcastle await a final decision from the club and player.

According to Sky Germany, Sesko has indicated that he is open to joining either Premier League side by agreeing on personal terms with both during recent talks.

The 22-year-old is said to have reached a full verbal agreement on a long-term contract with United and Newcastle after his representatives settled the final details on Monday.

It will now reportedly come down to which club can strike an agreement with Leipzig, with the Magpies currently offering more money.

Previous reports suggested that United would only commit to a formal bid for Sesko if they received encouragement over his desire to join.

So the Old Trafford giants’ big-money move feels significant as Ruben Amorim vies to complete his attacking overhaul this summer.

He has already splashed a combined £133.5m to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

United were expected to be cash-strapped this summer after failing to qualify for Europe and finishing 15th in the Premier League.

There is also yet to be a single high-profile permanent exit from Amorim’s squad, with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia still exiled at Carrington.

However, United have saved a significant sum on Marcus Rashford’s salary, with Barcelona covering it completely during his season-long loan spell.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils have generated around £20m from sell-on clauses after Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Fernandez and Maxi Oyedele’s respective summer switches.

They are also covering Cunha’s £62.5m fee in three instalments and Mbeumo’s £65m initial price tag across four.

Amorim’s spending might not be done there, with a midfielder and goalkeeper reportedly still on the agenda.
