A British woman who tragically died in a jet ski crash in Spain  has been named as the wife of a football club chairman. Debra Wright, whose husband is Ashton Town’s Chris Wright, lost her life in the incident along the Costa Del Sol in the popular holiday resort of Estepona on the evening of Saturday, June 28.

The 43-year-old, whose smile “lit up the room”, is believed to have died after the jet ski she was on was involved in a collision with a speedboat. Spanish court officials said a man who had been arrested had appeared in court yesterday on suspicion of manslaughter and being in charge of a boat while under the influence of alcohol.

Debra, who is thought to have been on holiday with her husband, was a passenger on the jet ski.

Ashton Town FC, which plays in the North West Counties League Division One North, issued the following statement on June 30, reading: “We are deeply saddened to hear the devastating news of the passing of Debra Wright at Ashton Town.

“Everyone at Ashton Athletic sends their heartfelt condolences to Chris, his family, and all at Ashton Town. Our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time.”

One said: “My thoughts are with Chris and his family such tragic news, also with the players committee and supporters of the club. RIP Debra the club means a lot to me as an ex Chairman.”

“Heartbreaking known Debra for a number years and her smile was infectious and lit up the room wherever she went. Thoughts are with the family”, said Ashton Ath Youth.

“What an amazing family, done so much for our community. My thoughts are with Chris, his family and everyone at Ashton Town FC.
