British pensioner stuck in Spanish hospital months after horror crash | World | News

A 71-year-old British man has been confined to a Spanish hospital for more than two months following a dreadful cycling accident that resulted in severe amnesia.

Stephen was rushed to Torrevieja Hospital on September 24 after suffering a stroke while cycling in Alicante, located on the Costa Blanca, according to reports by Olive Press.

The incident left him with significant memory loss, only able to remember his first name and age, but no other personal details or information about his family.

No  missing persons reports have been filed that match Stephen’s name or description.

In an attempt to discover his identity and home address, Stephen requested that his photograph and story be shared online, the MailOnline reveals.

The local police force circulated an appeal online which read: “We request your help in identifying the man in the photo.

“Due to an error, we have not been able to correctly identify him, so we ask that anyone who believes they can provide any information of interest to contact the Police on +34 696 465 481.”

Investigators are currently trying to reach Steve Presland, a passionate cyclist from the UK, whose photograph bears a striking resemblance to Stephen.

This theory was suggested by former friends who were convinced it was him in the picture.

However, this line of inquiry seems to have hit a roadblock as friends of Presland reported that he denies being the man in the hospital. It is understood that he has not yet spoken directly to either the media or the Spanish police.

The Foreign Office informed the Olive Press this week that it “stands ready to support British nationals abroad 24/7”.
