BT offers you moneysaving broadband perk that matches rivals but beats Sky

If you are thinking of signing up to a new broadband plan soon, BT has just quietly introduced an incentive to convince you to go with it instead of rival Sky, though Virgin Media is offering a similar perk – and it’s only available to new customers.

BT, EE and Plusnet are scrapping their broadband plans’ scheduled annual price rises in 2026 for new customers. Anyone who signs up to one of the firm’s broadband packages from March 1, 2026, will not then be hit with a £4 price rise on April 1.

As spotted by ISPreview, BT is now advertising new broadband contracts “with no price rise until 2027”, also applying to the BT Group-owned EE and Plusnet brands’ contracts.

Virgin Media is also not raising prices for anyone who signs up in March to one of its broadband plans until April 2027, and nor is Vodafone or TalkTalk, highlighting how Sky is operating on a different strategy to the majority of its best-known broadband rivals.

BT confirmed back in January it would raise prices for existing customers on April 1 by £4, a figure that will apply to the majority of its subscribers. This flat rate price rise comes after Ofcom banned internet providers from upping customer bills based on the rate of inflation.

Although price hikes are now more transparent in stated pounds and pence, they are the same figure across the board, no matter what service you subscribe to. So, you’ll pay an extra £4 if you’re already signed up whether your current monthly bill is £24 or £54 – a considerable rise for those on lower-priced tariffs.

If you’re a recently new BT, EE or Plusnet customer who signed up prior to March 1 this year, you will still be seeing a £4 monthly price rise on your bills starting on April 1 this year.

The new initiative stands out as BT’s big rivals Sky and Virgin Media are not offering such an incentive for their broadband packages. However, Sky is currently offering £3 off its base broadband package, which will offset that firm’s £3 April price rise, while Virgin Media is offering up to £250 in bill credit if you switch to its services – an incentive to incur early termination fees from your current provider.
