The expert travel team at looked at the cost of a week-long hotel stay and the number of cheap restaurants in each city to find this year’s best budget destinations.

Whether Britons are looking for a beach break or a city adventure, there are a few European destinations where the pound will go further.

Britons looking for a trip further afield might want to head to Egypt, where a travel expert told Brits can expect to see huge savings.

Another growing destination, Albania, didn’t feature on this list but could be the ideal destination for Britons looking for history, culture and beaches.

However, the cheapest destination in this ranking is a “beautiful” and “interesting” city in Eastern Europe.

For the second year running, Prague was crowned the best budget summer holiday destination for Britons.

The charming city has over 1,000 cheap restaurants and nearly 450 cheap hotels, leaving plenty of budget options for Brits.

For the cheapest options, Britons should opt to stay outside the city’s Old Town, where prices are highest.

Prague’s top-rated tourist attraction on Tripadvisor is the Charles Bridge, which connects both parts of the city.

A tourist ‘Linda H’ wrote on the review platform: “Beautiful old bridge. Many tourists and locals traverse this lovely bridge. Street musicians and artists make it a very colourful and interesting crossing.”

Although some tourists might be surprised to see Rome make the list, there are plenty of budget flight options to the Italian capital.

Britons might end up spending more on accommodation but the city does have a huge range of cheap restaurants.

Istanbul grabbed third place on the list and is likely to be one of the best options for Britons due to the strength of the pound against the lira.
