Cameron Norrie urges Wimbledon to give wildcard to British rival | Tennis | Sport

Cameron Norrie has called for Dan Evans to be handed a Wimbledon wildcard tomorrow. Evans, 35, recorded his best ever grass-court rankings win by beating world No.13 Frances Tiafoe in the opening round of the HSBC Championships on Monday.

The Davis Cup veteran, who teamed up with Andy Murray at the Olympics last summer, has fallen to world No.199 after going eight months without an ATP Tour-level match. The All England Club will announce the invites for The Championships at 10am on Wednesday.

And former Wimbledon semi-finalist Norrie said: “For me, he deserves one. If I was giving the wildcards, I’d give him one.

“He’s obviously one of my favorite players to watch when he’s moving well and playing like that. I came out on the balcony (against Tiafoe) and watched him. If I was going to watch Wimbledon as a fan, I would like to go watch Dan. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t get one.”

The AELTC also has to decide whether to give invites to French Open semi-finalist Lois Boisson – and Jay Clarke. The world No.153 was one of six initial plaintiffs in a London legal action lodged by the Professional Tennis Players’ Association against the sport’s governing bodies before withdrawing.
