Cartel storm major airport firing guns as passengers rush to flee horror | World | News
Cartel members stormed a major airport as panicked crowds were left scrambling for cover. It’s reported that the Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) drug cartel rushed into the Guadalajara International Airport in Jalisco, Mexico, in retaliation after their notorious leader, El Mencho, was killed in a huge military operation earlier today.
His real name was Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, and he was known to be one of the top bosses of the CJNG. Locals knew something was happening as vehicles were parked up and burnt on several major roads around Jalisco in a tactic to try and block the military.
El Mencho has even been a target of the US, with the State Department offering a $15million reward for information on El Mencho that would lead to his arrest.
But now, just hours after his death, the cartel has begun to retaliate.
Several clips online show armed men, assumed to be from the cartel, storming into the main terminal while firing their guns in the air.
Travellers can be seen running and scrambling away as gunmen continue to rush into the building.
Many terrified people used check-in desks and luggage conveyor belts to hide behind as they tried to seek cover.
It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the mayhem.
According to AirLive, federal forces and the National Guard have been dispatched to the airport amid what has been described as an “extremely volatile” situation.
