Cheapest place to buy a house in European hotspot loved by Brits | Travel News | Travel

The  cheapest seaside town to buy a home in a popular European hotspot has been revealed.

According to an Idealista price report, the coastal town of Manilva in Malaga’s Costa del Sol has the lowest property prices of all the beach towns in the municipality.

The average price was less than half that of Marbella, which is about a 35-minute drive away, with Marbella averaging €5,092 per square metre compared to €2,488 in Manilva at the start of 2025.

To put it into context, a 24 square metre two-bedroom property with a balcony and sea views was listed at €90,000 on the Idealista property website.

The most expensive property in the area was priced at €3,800,000 in Manilva, compared to the priciest mansion in the exclusive postcode of Benahavis, at €30,000,000.

Manilva on the Costa Del Sol is known for its beaches, vineyards, hiking and golfing spots, with its vast country clubs and green spaces.

Manilva Archaeological Museum showcases the area’s Roman and Moorish past, and Roman archaeological sites are a key attraction, such as Los Castillejos de Alcorrin – a fortified settlement dating back to the Bronze Age.

The town is about an hour’s drive from Malaga with connections to the rest of Spain or internationally, and it is about 50 minutes from Gibraltar airport.

While the Costa Del Sol is a popular location for Brits to buy, Andalusia recently took action to crack down on illegal tourist flats, set to introduce fines of up to 600,000 euros (£496,700) through a new Sustainable Tourism Law.

Under the law, which received preliminary approval on February 18, guests must be registered and property used as holiday accommodation declared. Designated tourist areas will also be established – separate from residential zones – though these may overlap.
