Chelsea ‘baffled’ by John Terry comments as Blues icon airs frustrations | Football | Sport

Calum McFarlane, the previous under-21 boss, took charge for two matches. Considering his history with Chelsea’s academy system, Terry felt somewhat aggrieved as colleagues progressed to first-team coaching roles whilst he was overlooked. McFarlane, who now serves as part of Rosenior’s coaching staff, held merely a UEFA B Licence.

In contrast, Terry possesses a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest European qualification available, and has worked at Premier League level as Dean Smith’s assistant at both Aston Villa and Leicester City. Yet he remains unclear about why he wasn’t selected.

“(I wasn’t) annoyed,” Terry told Jimmy Bullard on his Golf Life YouTube channel. “Probably more frustrated because I was certainly part of that under-21s group that went over.

“So even if I didn’t take the team. Obviously, Calum took the team and did really well. Got a result out of the game. I feel like I should have been part of them.

“Now, listen. People have got to make decisions. I love it when people make decisions and they go yes or no.

“And clearly, ownership or whoever made those decisions, the sporting directors have gone “no”, not to include me for whatever reason – why, I don’t know.”

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea’s hierarchy are reportedly left “baffled” by the remarks from the club legend, though they have not specified exactly who made the claims.

The report also suggests rival Premier League club sources are questioning why Terry has publicly aired his grievances about the club he remains employed by as a part-time coach twice a month.

The club, however, has yet to issue any formal response.
