Chelsea player ratings vs Barcelona: Estevao dazzles with two 9/10s in statement victory | Football | Sport

Chelsea made a huge statement in the Champions League with their biggest ever victory over Barcelona on a memorable night at Stamford Bridge. The scoreline failed to tell the whole story, with the Blues having three goals disallowed as they ran riot against their old Spanish rivals. Enzo Fernandez had the ball in the net on two occasions before Jules Kounde bundled over his own line to give Chelsea the advantage they deserved.

The visitors were then reduced in numbers when Ronald Araujo was shown a second booking for a clumsy challenge on Marc Cucurella. Chelsea took full advantage and ramped up the pressure, with Andrey Santos seeing a goal chalked off for an offside in the build-up. Just minutes later, Estevao stole the show by dancing into the box and slamming an absolute rocket into the top corner. Liam Delap added a third as the clock ticked down, putting the cherry on the cake for the Blues as they sent a bold warning to the rest of Europe’s elite.

Express Sport looks at how every Chelsea player performed in tonight’s victory…

Chelsea player ratings vs Barcelona

Robert Sanchez – 7

Showed bravery by rushing out to protect his goal and did enough to earn a clean sheet. Distributed the ball effectively to start attacking moves from the very back.

Malo Gusto – 7

Had a decent game but was overshadowed by Cucurella’s top-notch display on the opposite flank. Replaced at the break after picking up a booking.

Trevoh Chalobah – 8

Did really well as a commanding presence in the back line. Had the discipline to keep his shape rather than diving into tackles and creating gaps in defence.

Wesley Fofana – 8

Nearly set up an early goal but the ball struck his arm in the build-up. Played a key role in keeping Barcelona’s forwards at bay, teaming up with Chalobah to snuff out attacking moves.

Marc Cucurella – 9

Locked down the left flank with ease and posed a danger up front with his crossing. Managed to keep Lamine Yamal quiet in the final third, which is a huge achievement for any defender.

Reece James – 7

Started slowly with a few sloppy passes but improved as the game went on. Had a few speculative efforts from range which didn’t trouble the goalkeeper.

Moises Caicedo – 8

Covered every blade of grass in the middle of the park, racing back to make important challenges while also contributing with the ball at his feet. Helped his team by doing much of the dirty work that often goes unnoticed.

Enzo Fernandez – 8

Was the scorer of two disallowed goals in the first half. Excelled in the creative role behind the lone striker and was at the heart of most good things in the final third. A fine display.

Estevao – 9

Led the attacking charge at times and looked a threat every time he was on the ball. Scored a stunning goal to double Chelsea’s lead and eclipse Yamal in the battle of the teenage superstars.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6

Had a relatively quiet game and didn’t offer a great deal in the final third. Stayed in the shadows of his attacking team-mates as Chelsea took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Pedro Neto – 7

Missed a huge chance to open the scoring but made amends just minutes later, taking the shot which was bundled over the line. Played as the striker and had a decent game in an unfamiliar position.

Substitutes

Andrey Santos – 6

Came on for the second half, replacing Gusto. Did well enough and was the scorer of Chelsea’s third disallowed goal.

Liam Delap – 7

Introduced just before the hour mark in place of Garnacho. Pressed from the front and scored with a fine finish to cap off a flowing team move.

Jamie Gittens – 6

Played the final 15 minutes, coming on for Neto. Had some good moments but wasn’t able to get himself a goal.

Tyrique George – n/a

A late addition, coming on for Estevao.

Josh Acheampong – n/a

A late addition, replacing James.
