Chelsea stance on sacking Liam Rosenior after Todd Boehly appearance | Football | Sport

Chelsea’s owners are reportedly backing Liam Rosenior to be a success at Stamford Bridge, and aren’t planning a change of manager, despite a disastrous week. The Blues crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, with Tuesday’s 3-0 humiliation in west London compounding last week’s 5-2 defeat in the French capital.

The second leg defeat came just days after Chelsea’s pursuit to qualify for next season’s Champions League took a major blow, with the two-time European champions losing at home to Newcastle. There have been reports that the Chelsea hierarchy could look to sack Rosenior in the summer, should they fail to finish inside the Champions League qualification spots.

However, it’s being reported by the Daily Mail that the Chelsea bigwigs aren’t looking at making a change just yet, with the hierarchy still committed to the six-and-a-half-year deal he signed in January. It’s also claimed that the squad are still behind the manager, despite his criticisms from the Chelsea fanbase and the wider football world.

It comes after co-owner Todd Boehly made a surprise appearance at the second leg of Chelsea’s clash with PSG in mid-week. Boehly isn’t a regular at Stamford Bridge but made the trip in the hope that it could have been a night to remember in the capital. Instead, the American watched on as PSG ripped through Rosenior’s men with consummate ease.

The season isn’t over for Chelsea by any means. As well as the eight Premier League matches they have to play, there is also an FA Cup campaign to focus on. Assuming they aren’t on the end of what would likely be the biggest FA Cup shock in recent memory against Port Vale in the quarter-final next month, they’ll have a semi-final at Wembley to look forward to later in the month.

Rosenior hasn’t lost faith though, with the ex-Strasbourg boss insisting his side will bounce back. He said after the PSG second leg: “This is football. Excuse me, I lost my voice shouting. Not at the players after the game but during the game. This is football. Moments can change the flow of things.

“Two and a quarter games ago, we were away in Paris or coming off the back of Aston Villa, a very good performance. 2-2 in the game, but we don’t take care of the moments, we switch off. What I have to do is make sure that we get that back on track and that comes from not making mistakes or errors. That’s something that me and my staff have already spoken about now, but that’s something that I will speak about tomorrow and make sure that we go into the Everton game in a really positive frame of mind.”
