Donald Trump breaks silence after Andrew’s arrest | Royal | News

Donald Trump has spoken for the first time about the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. Addressing reporters on the Air Force One, the US President said on Thursday evening: “I think it’s very sad. I think it’s so bad for the Royal Family.

“It’s very, very sad. To me, it’s a very sad thing.” Mr Trump went on to praise King Charles as a “fantastic” person “who’s obviously coming to our country very soon.” Mr Trump’s comment comes hours after the former Duke of York was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The former prince and brother of King Charles left Aylsham police station in Norfolk this evening, and was pictured seemingly slouched in the back of a vehicle.

Thames Valley Police said after Andrew left the station: “On Thursday (19/2) we arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

“The arrested man has now been released under investigation. We can also confirm that our searches in Norfolk have now concluded.”

It is understood that police searches at his former address in Berkshire, the Royal Lodge, are still underway.

Thames Valley Police added it will not be making any further statements at this time.

Andrew, who is eighth in line to the throne, was detained on his 66th birthday, following allegations made against the former prince after the release of millions of pages of files related to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. The former Duke of York vehemently denies any wrongdoing over his Epstein links.

In response to the arrest, the King, who today made an appearance at the launch of the London Fashion Week, said: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.

“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.” He added: “My family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
