Donald Trump’s press conference abruptly ended as ’emergency’ cuts live stream | World | News

A girl has collapsed at Donald Trump‘s White House press conference, bringing the event to an abrupt halt. Members of the press were hastily shepherded out of the Oval Office after officials realised what was happening. In footage, an official can be heard telling journalists, “Out, out, press out”, with the US President looking on from a podium.

Video was posted on social media by Aaron Rupar, who describes himself as a journalist in his X bio. His clip was accompanied by the comment: “Trump tells reporters their lives will be in great danger if Iran gets a nuke and then someone has a medical event and collapses, bringing the event to an abrupt close”.

The clip shows a concerned looking Mr Trump wander over to the scene of the collapse as guests and staff rush to the youngster’s aid. The press conference was being held on Friday (April 18) after Mr Trump observed the swearing in of US television personality Dr Mehmet Oz. He is to serve as administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The member of Dr Oz’s family appeared to faint, but with help was able to stand up. She appeared unsteady as she was helped out of the Oval Office.

Mr Trump was answering reporters’ questions on various subjects when the girl fainted. The White House didn’t identify her, but later said she was doing okay.

As head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr Oz, 64, will manage health insurance programs for roughly half the United States, with oversight of Medicare, Medicaid and Affordable Care Act coverage.

The former heart surgeon and TV talk-show host steps into the role as Congress debates cuts to Medicaid, which aids millions of poor and disabled Americans.

Before the young girl collapsed, Mr Trump looked on as Dr Oz was sworn in by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The president repeated his promise of “no cuts” to Medicare and Medicaid and thanked D Oz for the “big commitment” he is making.

Before the press conference was halted, Mr Trump told reporters he agreed with US Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio that a Ukraine-Russia peace deal must be done “quickly”.

He said: “I have no specific number of days, but quickly. We want to get it done.” The president described the war as a “vicious battle” but said he thought he had a “good chance of solving the problem”.

Mr Trump added: “If for some reason one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we’re just going to say, ‘You’re foolish. You’re fools. You’re horrible people and we’re going to just take a pass’. But hopefully we won’t have to do that.”

He did not offer specifics about what progress he would need to see to keep from dropping the effort to broker a peace deal.

The president was asked if he thought Russian President Vladimir Putin is stalling, to which he replied: “I hope not.”
