Drunken menace banned from UK seaside town after terrorising public | UK | News

A woman who shouted, swore and intimidated members of the public before assaulting a police officer whilst drunk, has been banned from the seaside town of Scarborough. Sadie Lauren Metcalf was issued with a criminal behaviour order, after she was taken to court for three instances of shoplifting, two public order offences and a violation of a previous criminal behaviour order and assault.

Last year it was reported that she was given a prison sentence after she hurled a shelf at a police officer in what local media described as a “racially charged tirade”. Ms Metcalf, 31, reportedly hurled racial slurs at people walking down a local street, and when the police arrived to detain her she set upon them with wooden shelves, and even plant pots which she threw from a balcony. For this, she was handed a six-month prison sentence.

Last week, PC Sophie Milner commented: “Sadie Metcalf has demonstrated a pattern of behaviour which has caused significant alarm, distress and harassment to members of the public, business owners and emergency services personnel.

“Her conduct is frequently fuelled by excessive alcohol consumption and is characterised by aggressive, volatile and disruptive actions on public spaces.

“I am thankful that the court has recognised the consistent level of offending and disregard Metcalf has shown and granted a criminal behaviour order for five-years”.

As well as this she was given a 35-week suspended sentence, for eighteen months, and a a six-month alcohol treatment requirement, and a rehabilitation requirement of 26 days. She is also required to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay compensation of £200, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £187.
