Sky has just announced a major change that could finally spell the end of the satellite dish. It’s just been confirmed that the company is no longer selling its Sky Q set-top box via its website, with new customers now being pushed over to Sky Stream or Sky Glass TVs instead.

“We’ve unplugged Sky Q. Plug in Sky Stream for less. Sky Q is no longer available to buy online,” A message on Sky’s site reads.

“But you can take your viewing to the next level with Sky Stream from £15 a month.”

For those not in the know, Stream and Glass products use an internet connection for live and on-demand content rather than beaming things to screens via an over-the-air signal.

There are advantages to this, as they are easy to install and don’t require an engineer to visit, plus they receive more regular updates and bonus features. Sky Stream is also much cheaper than Sky Q, with prices starting from just £15 per month.

This change hasn’t come as a huge surprise. Sky Q hasn’t been the main focus of the telly provider for some time with most new customers now opting for a streaming device instead.

That said, millions of homes still love and use Sky Q, and that will continue with only new users affected by the change. This product will also be available by calling Sky directly or heading to a retail store.

“Sky Q is no longer available to buy online, but customers can call us if they’d like to order Sky Q, or visit one of our retail stores,” Sky confirmed to Express.co.uk.

“Alternatively, they can opt for one of our popular streaming products, Sky Glass and Sky Stream, which are chosen by 9 in 10 of our new customers.”

So, the satellite dish isn’t going anywhere just yet, but the move to streaming continues to intensify.
