Enjoy affordable Caribbean-like holiday on British islands | Travel News | Travel
If you dream of a Caribbean holiday with crystal-clear seas, white sands and balmy weather, it could be closer than you think. You don’t need to spend a fortune on flights across the world to experience the Caribbean lifestyle; there’s a group of islands just off the coast of England that can provide it all.
The Isles of Scilly are just 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall and have some of the warmest weather in the UK. There are five main islands and hundreds of beaches to explore. Visitors can kayak, dive, sail, swim and windsurf to their hearts content.
Back on land there is no shortage of incredible sights to see including old ruins, beautiful gardens and even a maze.
The largest island in the archipelago is St Mary’s which spans just over six square miles and is home to around 1,800 residents.
This particular island is also a beloved holiday destination for the royal family – The Prince and Princess of Wales have been known to take their children here for a summer break.
They’ve also been spotted on the second largest island of Tresco which is home to Tresco Abby Gardens.
This stunning spot boasts 20,000 species of sub-tropical plants and flowers, making a peaceful paradise perfect for a day of exploration.
Tresco is an area of natural beauty and to preserve this, it is entirely car free; electric buggies or bicycles are the best way to explore the island. There is also public transport or, of course, you could walk to see the best the island has to offer.
If you want to experience this slice of paradise for yourself then Discover Ferries recommends travelling to Tresco via St Mary’s by sea from Penzance between March and November with Isle of Scilly Travel.
