Erling Haaland rushed off air as Mark Chapman suddenly ends Carabao Cup interview | Football | Sport

Erling Haaland’s post-match interview came to an early end as the Manchester City striker was rushed off air after the Carabao Cup final. The Norway international was speaking after he helped City claim a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the final at Wembley Stadium.

Nico O’Reilly scored both goals for City, both of which were in the second half, to see Pep Guardiola’s side win the first major trophy of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Haaland took part in a post-match interview with Sky Sports on the touchline at Wembley, which was also being broadcast live on ITV.

Lead presenter Mark Chapman was conducting the interview when, just as Haaland had finished answering a question, he quickly brought the segment to a halt to go to an advertising break, much to the surprise of the City striker.

“Thank you very much for joining us,” Chapman said to Haaland. “We need to get off air, we’re on ITV, so thank you very much, congratulations.”

The reason for the early end to the interview was ITV’s coverage of the final was coming to an end, but Sky’s post-match reaction was still continuing on Sky Sports channels and Sky One.

Before the interview came to an end, Haaland was full of praise for City teammate and match-winner O’Reilly, who scored both goals with runs into the penalty box from defence.

“It’s what we need to do,” Haaland said. “We need to get many in the box because it’s a better chance to score.

“What a game for him [O’Reilly]. I’m so happy for him. But that’s what we need to do. We need to work around each other and we need movement in the box. What an amazing day.”

City and Arsenal will now have a two-week break from action as the March international break takes centre stage.

Pep Guardiola and Co. will be back in action on April 4 when they will face Liverpool in the quarter-final of the FA Cup, while Arsenal also return in the same competition on the same day with an away trip to Southampton.

The Premier League title race will also resume next month, when City will travel to face Chelsea on April 12, while Arsenal will host Bournemouth a day earlier on April 11.
