European city ‘perfect if you’re on a budget’ and full of charm: ‘We lived like Kings’
Budapest in Hungary has been named number one in a list of the cheapest European cities to visit with two-course meals costing just £15 or less.
European city breaks are not exactly renowned for their affordability but this city packs in as much charm and beauty as some of the continent’s most popular destinations – at a fraction of the cost.
It was recently named at the top of a list of the 15 cheapest cities in Europe to visit.
The Hand Luggage Only travel site said: “I was totally surprised at how much cheaper things were in Budapest, from the likes of London or Paris (for example).
“We lived like Kings visiting here”.

Sunset cruises, spa packages, and historical tours are some of the city’s most popular attractions.
The city has also been voted one of the best for fine dining meals and Michelin-starred restaurants.
But despite boasting high-end, award-winning eateries, they don’t come with a big price tag as delicious meals can be bought for just £10 or under.
Two-course meals with wine come to an average of just £15, according to reviews on Tripadvisor.
Budapest is famous for its history and beautiful Gothic architecture.
It is also home to the Széchenyi Baths. Surrounded by the greenery of City Park, the Baths provide an oasis of relaxation in thermal waters.
Pools heated by natural hot springs, steam and dry saunas, ice machines, relaxation areas, a whirlpool, and a bar/restaurant are all available at the Baths.
Buda Castle is another popular hot spot for tourists and houses the National Gallery and Budapest History Museum.
