While drivers and team bosses are remaining tight-lipped as to who could step into Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes seat, one former F1 star has jokingly decided to take matters into his own hands.

Romain Grosjean, whose last F1 season came in 2020, sent a pointed message to team principal Toto Wolff via Instagram.

Posting a picture of himself in Mercedes overalls, he wrote: “Maybe time to give a phone call to Toto.”

Grosjean and Mercedes have been trying to organise a test drive for more than two years, and the former Haas man insists it is still on the table.
