Foreign Office warns ‘contact operator’ in popular destination warning | Travel News | Travel

A new alert from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has seen official travel guidance for France changed.

Millions of people travel from the UK to the country each year and fresh advice says some people may need to contact their travel operator. The alert in full reads: “Eurostar and some French train services are disrupted, following the discovery of an object on the tracks near Paris Gare du Nord.

“This includes all Eurostar services between Paris and London in both directions, and some RER, regional and TGV services. Check your operator’s advice before travelling.”

Elsewhere travellers are reminded of current passport rules. As France is part of the Schengen area, anyone travelling on a British passport must have a “date of issue” less than 10 years before the date you arrive.

The “expiry date” of your document must also be at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen area.

People with a British passport can travel without a visa to the Schengen area, which includes France, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This is the case if you’re travelling to visit family or friends, for a holiday, to attend business meetings, or for short-term training or study.

Advice continues: “Visits to Schengen countries in the 180 days before you travel count towards your 90 days. If you overstay the 90-day visa-free limit, you may be banned from entering Schengen countries for up to 3 years.”
