Forget vacuum cleaners, Dyson’s latest idea looks seriously cool

With the UK weather finally hotting up, Dyson is back with a very cool idea. The UK firm’s new HushJet Mini Fan has been designed to help owners feel a little less sweaty when the summer sun starts to shine. The portable cooler can be placed on a desk, popped in a pocket, or even worn, via a supplied Neck Dock, to keep the temperature down whilst on the move.

Despite its handheld size, Dyson is promising some brisk performance thanks to a tiny motor that spins at 65,000 RPM – that’s over twice the speed of an airline’s jet engine.

There are five airflow speeds to suit all conditions, plus it features a special “Boost” mode for extra turbocharged power when things get really hot.

All that power doesn’t mean it will make a racket. Dyson says it has been built to keep the noise down with its clever design eliminating high-pitched whirring and silencing the sound of whining motors.

For added convenience, the Mini Fan is battery-powered and, once fully charged, will keep blowing for about 6 hours.

“Since 2009, we’ve been obsessed with airflow,” Chief Engineer Jake Dyson explained.

“Mastering air projection, reducing turbulence, and refining thermal technology. The HushJet Mini Cool fan is the culmination of that journey: powerful airflow, engineered for life on the move by bringing elite cooling technology from every home to your hand.”

Dyson’s portable fan will arrive in stores later this month in three finishes, including mother of pearl, red and blue.

The only thing that might get some hot under the collar is the price.

It’s set to cost £99.99.
