Golf LIVE – Woods Masters announcement and Fleetwood Texas Open change | Golf | Sport
It’s moving day at the Valero Texas Open as a field of 132 PGA Tour pros is slimmed to just 70, each of whom hoping to clinch the title at the Oaks Course come Sunday. Robert MacIntyre heads into Saturday’s play as the leader with a staggering overall score of 14 under par – four strokes ahead of second-place Ludvig Aberg.
Bud Cauley, Tony Finau, Thorbjorn Olesen and Kevin Roy, meanwhile, share third place at nine under. It promises to be an exciting day of play when the action returns at around 8am EST/1pm BST on Saturday afternoon, as players look to put their final touches on their preparations for next week’s Masters at Augusta National.
It comes as Tommy Fleetwood this week announced a new brand deal with Blackstone, which will see him sport the asset management firm’s logo on his cap for the rest of the season on the PGA Tour and in major championships. It follows his long-standing apparelt deal with Nike coming to an end – as he turned up to the Valero Texas Open this week in a pair of Sun Day Read shoes as opposed to his trusty Nike TW13s.
Elsewhere, the Englishman – who is chasing his second PGA Tour win – made a cosmetic change to his TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter, removing the custom Sharpie lines and opting for a pair of parallel milled lines and a dot.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods announced that he will not take part in next week’s Masters tournament at Augusta, making the decision to step away from golf after flipping his Land Rover in Jupiter, Florida last week and being arrested and charged with driving under the influence, destruction to property and failing to submit to a lawful test.
