Gorgeous UK seaside village so small it only has 1 street | Travel News | Travel

The UK is home to a huge range of stunning seaside spots but there’s one that goes under the radar. Located in Scotland, the tiny village only has one street and it’s a place that’s not often visited by tourists meaning visitors don’t have to battle with crowds.

Pennan has been called a “haven for wildlife and natural beauty” and its small harbour is the perfect place to enjoy its peaceful scenery. The village is home to a rugged coastline and there’s plenty of places to enjoy a quiet walk while taking in the views. Visit Aberdeenshire says: “Pennan may be a small village but it has a big claim to fame.

“Its traditional red telephone box became an icon after featuring in the classic film Local Hero and visitors continue to make a call from the famous box, reliving a slice of movie history.

“Fans can also visit the Pennan Inn, which featured in the film, while exploring the village’s charming street of colourful, gable-end cottages.”

On Tripadvisor, one person who visited the village says it is a pleasant place to walk around and that it is worth a visit if you are in the area.

Another person penned: “The picturesque 19th century harbour of this former fishing village featured in the 1983 film Local Hero starring Burt Lancaster, and is one of the reasons many tourists seek it out.

“Pennan doubled as the fictitious village of Ferness in the film. The East Pier was built in 1854, and the West Pier was built in 1903/4 (by engineer James Barron) and extended five years later.

“The piers face one another forming the harbour basin entrance. From the East Pier the view looking back on this tiny village backed by towering sandstone cliffs is magnificent, as is the winding, steep, narrow road down into Pennan.”

Pennan beach is known for its picturesque look with some visitors on Tripadvisor even saying they saw dolphins while enjoying a walk in the beauty spot.

If you’re looking for a place where you can unwind, look no further than this pretty village.
