Harry’s ‘wicked stepmother’ remark about Camilla | UK | News
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were allegedly ejected from Frogmore Cottage in Home Park, Windsor, after a two-word insult directed at Queen Camilla.
King Charles evicted his son and daughter-in-law from the property that had been gifted to them by the late Queen Elizabeth II, with the monarch reportedly feeling Harry had “crossed a line” back in March 2023.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed they have been “requested to vacate” their UK home in a move that has supposedly left them “stunned.”
Sources suggested the King was incandescent over a string of Harry’s allegations in his controversial memoir, especially his attacks on his wife.
There were more than 60 mentions of Camilla in Spare – and the Duke of Sussex makes no attempt to hide his contempt for ‘the Other Woman’.
However, his particularly scathing comments related to her transformation into his “wicked stepmother.”
Early in the book, Harry outlines what existence was like after his mother, Princess Diana’s death and how his father, King Charles, began to progress.
Harry claims he sensed the presence of ‘the Other Woman’, and that his brother, Prince William, had long harboured doubts about her which baffled and distressed him. After using the expression four times across half a page, Harry finally reveals that ‘the Other Woman’ is actually Queen Consort Camilla.
Harry previously pondered whether she might become his ‘wicked stepmother’ and alleges she would sacrifice others to cement her position on the throne – even transforming his bedroom into her private dressing room.
He claimed that he and William begged Charles not to wed Camilla, though they vowed to embrace her into the family.
The Duke of Sussex confessed he simply wanted Camilla to be happy so she would present less of a “dangerous” threat.
During a television interview, Harry declared: “She was the villain. She was the third person in their marriage. She needed to rehabilitate her image.”
Palace sources have indicated Charles moved quickly after receiving a briefing from advisers outlining revelations from the explosive book.
A source revealed: “It was the last straw. Harry was well aware how Camilla would be a red line for his father and he crossed with flagrant disregard anyway.
“The King felt without a doubt it crossed a line – it was the ultimate act of disrespect.”
One Royal commentator believes Charles has defied the wishes of his late mother the Queen, who tried to maintain Harry’s inclusion – adding that the “optics are terrible.”
Royal expert and historian Dr Tessa Dunlop said: “Britain’s response to the news has, on the whole, been gleeful. On one level the vitriol is understandable.
“Prince Harry had just lobbed several verbal hand grenades at his family and the former institution to which he belonged. But he did so from a position of weakness, on the outside, in pain and feeling side-lined.”
