A two-year-old boy has died after he was reportedly ‘strangled by his jumper’ at a nursery in Italy.

The incident occurred at Ambarabà Ciccì Coccò nursery in Bibienna at around 11.30am.

The young boy was found dead by nursery staff.

According to reports, part of his jumper got tangled in a tree while he was running around.

Air ambulance failed to make it to the scene as medics tried to deliver CPR. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prosecutors have launched a manslaughter investigation and the nursery will remain closed until at least next week.

Footage showed horrified locals crying outside the nursery upon hearing the news.

The Koiné cooperative, which manages the nursery, said: “We have no words that can soothe the excruciating pain of the parents and family of the child who lost his life this morning.

“The tragedy is also our grief, because we feel the children who greet us with a smile every morning as our own.

“Our staff, shocked and distraught by the tragedy, have made themselves available to the investigators.”
