Horror as asylum seeker accused of beating and raped woman before murdering teenage girl | World | News
An asylum seeker raped a second woman days before allegedly murdering a teenage girl, a court in the Netherlands was told. Prosecutors outlined their case in detail against the Nigerian suspect identified as “Chris Jude”.
The alleged incidents occurred over two nights in August this year, in and around Amsterdam. Police officers have still been unable to confirm the true identity of the accused, who now calls himself “Desmond”. He has changed his name, reportedly, in a bid to try and forget his past experiences of living in orphanages in Nigeria.
Jude is alleged by prosecutors to have committed his first crime outside central Amsterdam on August 15. Prosecutors said he attacked a 30-year-old woman while she was out walking near Spaklerweg, some 20 minutes from the centre of the capital city. The victim didn’t hear her attacker approach as she was listening to music on her earphones.
She was allegedly grabbed from behind by Jude, who then proceeded to rape her for nearly an hour, as well as punching her in the face. After the horrific attack, he waited while she dressed and then handed back her belongings before running off.
The police found DNA on her body matching that of Jude, while CCTV images captured a man fleeing the scene on a black bike with a distinctive white front fork.
A bike with the same design would later be found parked at the asylum centre where Jude has been living. Prosecutors then claimed that just five days later Jude struck again, this time killing his victim.
In the early hours of August 20, 17-year-old Lisa made her way from Amsterdam city centre on her electric bike.
Police were later able to reconstruct her route using GPS, bike crash data and CCTV. Video images show a man riding behind her on the same distinctive bike used by Jude in the first attack.
Noticing she was being tailed, Lisa called 112 to report that she was being followed. In the recording of the call, she suddenly starts screaming “No, help me, please stop” before all goes quiet. Emergency services arrived on the scene minutes later, only to find that she was already dead.
Investigators were able to place Jude in the area at the time of the murder from his mobile phone. Traces of his DNA were discovered on Lisa’s chin and phone case. Police would also find a knife with Lisa’s DNA on it in Jude’s locker at the asylum centre.
Defence lawyers said Jude struggles with serious mental health issues, and sometimes hears screaming voices commanding him to act. He is likely to be admitted to a mental health assessment clinic early next year.
