Horror as train with 150 passengers on board derails after ‘jumping tracks’ | World | News

A train carrying 150 passengers derailed on Saturday, in a horrifying incident. After a problem at a switch point, the huge locomotive jumped off the tracks with its first two axles veering off course and into the dirt, all while its carriages were full of passengers.

The German train running along the Augsburg to Fussen route came into trouble near the town of Weizern-Hopferau. According to operator Bavarian Regional Railway (BRB), the full cause of the derailment is not yet known, but they confirmed that no injuries were reported, with all passengers on board having a lucky escape.

Emergency personnel soon made their way to the snow-covered tracks, where they evacuated the passengers and transported them on the rest of their journey via a bus.

The derailed train has been sitting blocking the tracks since the incident yesterday, but plans are underway to load the front carriages back onto the rails where engineers can assess the full extent of the damage.

Then, they warn that the route may be closed for longer depending on what repairs are needed. A replacement bus service will be in place during that time.

The news comes just weeks after a train derailment in the UK, when on November 3, an Avanti West Coast train travelling from Glasgow to London derailed in Shap in Cumbria.

The train was travelling at approximately 83 mph when it struck debris, derailing the front carriage for about 560 meters, although nobody onboard was seriously injured.
