‘I am a travel expert – this jewel is the perfect Spanish city’ | Travel News | Travel
UK holidaymakers love a trip to Spain for many reasons – the sunshine and warm climate, gorgeous beaches, rich culture and, of course, the incredible food. The beautiful destination is one of the most visited in the world, but there are a number of its cities that do not get the same love as some of its more popular ones, such as Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville. Destination expert Eddi Fiegel revealed her honest opinions about all major cities in Spain in a list by The Telegraph, and there was one in particular.
San Sebastian, home to just over 189,000 people, was rated ten out of ten and might just be “the perfect city”. The hotspot described as a “jewel in the Basque Country’s crown” may be small in size, but that hasn’t stopped it from establishing itself as a well-known tourist destination, thanks to the abundance of activities and events it offers and hosts.
The bustling city is also highly recognised for its remarkable food scene, boasting “one of Spain’s highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants” and tapas bars. It is no wonder that San Sebastian was the ultimate holiday spot for Spain’s royalty at the beginning of the 20th century.
Today, the city has welcomed a number of celebrities, including the likes of Cate Blanchett, Andrew Garfield, and Johnny Depp. Many of these world-famous figures jet over to the Spanish destination during the San Sebastian International Film Festival, which is held in September.
Although events take place throughout the whole year, the city peaks during the summer with the San Sebastian Jazz Festival – the longest continuously running Jazz Festival in Europe and the Musical Fortnight in August.
When it comes to San Sebastian, however, you can’t forget its stunning beaches. The city boasts four sandy stretches with their own personalities, so whether you want to relax, play some sports, or do a bit of surfing or swimming, there is a perfect beach specifically for you.
Concha Beach is the city’s most visited, boasting a stunning landscape and white sand. The Concha stretches for 1.5 kilometres and offers incredible views of the city.
One visitor on TripAdvisor said: “It’s THE beach, and it’s fabulous! Lovely soft sand, lots of space and artists making beautiful designs. Such a wonderful walk along the promenade.”
Another added: “It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit San Sebastián (off-season would be better). But whenever you come, make sure to take sunset walks on La Concha beach.”
This gorgeous yet small city has it all and, therefore, needs a spot on your bucket list.
