I visited all 54 countries in Africa – this beautiful seaside nation was the best | Africa | Travel
Africa is becoming an ever more popular destination for travellers around the world, with millions heading to the continent. It offers everything from stunning landscapes and exotic wildlife to vibrant cities teeming with life and adventure.
Deciding on a destination is by no means an easy task, given all 54 countries have their own unique charms. However, there is one county that stands head and shoulders above the others, according to the American travel blogger Drew Binsky.
Tanzania is the place to visit, with its gorgeous scenery, abundant wildlife and fascinating local customs and culture.
The East African country is famous for the Serengeti National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Its plains cover 1.5 million hectares of savannah and are home to the “big five” game – elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino – and many more animals.
Tourists can track the spectacular annual migration of two million wildebeests, which normally starts from April following the rains.
In a video blog published to his YouTube channel, Drew travels to observe the stunning annual event.
“We’re driving through the Serengeti now and we have an unbelievable sighting of zebra and wildebeest,” he says breathlessly.
“The migration is taking place right now and there are literally tens of thousands within our eyesight and it’s so beautiful to see.”
Hikers can climb Africa’s highest mountain in Tanzania, the stupendous and amazing Mount Kilimanjaro.
A dormant volcano, it is the highest free-standing mountain above sea level in the world, rising to a whopping 5,895 metres.
Offshore lie the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences and stunning beaches, and Mafia, with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs.
Tanzania is the fastest-growing African destination, and attracted some 5.3 million visitors last year – a 132% rise since 2021.
For Drew, there is definitely no other place like it in Africa. “I’m telling you guys, if you can only visit one country in Africa, let it be Tanzania,” he enthuses.
“People are friendly, it’s safe, the streets are clean. There’s no scams here. Everyone is super nice. They speak English. You will absolutely love it.”
