‘I’m a cruise expert and this is the one must-have thing you should never forget’ | Cruise | Travel

Packing for a cruise can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially if you’re not sure what essentials to bring.

But according to travel expert Elaine Warren, who has visited over 60 countries and runs the award-winning blog The Family Cruise Companion, there’s one small item that should always make it into your suitcase.

And that thing is a power adapter.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Elaine explained how essential items like power adapters can make all the difference on board.

She said: “Cruise ships might have different outlets depending on where they’re traveling, so you’ll want to pack power adapters to charge your devices.

“It’s one of those things people forget, but it can save you so much hassle.”

Elaine, who has authored The Family Cruise Companion’s Guide to Cruising with Kids, also shared other must-have items for a smooth cruise experience.

She said: “Start with your travel documents – passports, cruise tickets, and visas if needed. Always keep a digital copy on your phone, just in case.”

For families with children, she suggested packing small toys, snacks, or colouring books to keep little ones entertained, along with a basic first-aid kit and seasickness remedies.

When it comes to clothing, Elaine recommended thinking about your activities.

She said: “Bring comfortable outfits for exploring, swimwear for pool days, and something nice for dinner on board. And if you’re planning to explore on foot, make sure to pack sturdy, comfortable shoes.”

Equally important, she said, is knowing what to leave behind.

Elaine said: “Skip the expensive jewelry or anything you’d hate to lose. Don’t overpack clothes – bring a few items you can mix and match instead of a separate outfit for every day.”

She also advised against bringing heavy electronics unless absolutely necessary, as most ships offer Wi-Fi for those who need it.

Finally, she assured travellers they don’t need to worry about food.

Elaine added: “Cruises offer plenty of dining options for every taste, so unless you have specific dietary needs, leave the snacks at home.”
