‘I’m travelling Europe and I’d never pack three things in carry-on’ | Europe | Travel
A globetrotting traveller has revealed the three items you should “never bother” packing in your carry-on when heading to Europe. Packing for an overseas adventure can prove overwhelming, but TikTok influencer Anjali has offered some game-changing advice about what to leave behind.
Her viral video outlined three unnecessary items for European and North African travel, filmed during her inaugural week of an ambitious three-week journey.
Anjali provided clever alternatives to these bulky essentials, promising to free up precious luggage space. The primary culprit she identified was “sneakers”, which she claims consume far more room than warranted.
She explained: “You really do not need to bring sneakers and I recommend instead that you get a pair of closed toe sandals. Just wear them with socks on the plane.
“You’re going to end up wanting to shop when you’re in Europe and the sneakers that you wear on the plane will be taking up so much space in your bag that you’ll wish you hadn’t brought them.”
Addressing concerns about comfort whilst wearing sandals, Anjali emphasised the importance of selecting appropriate footwear.
She noted: “The right pair of sandals is key! I felt so much less sweaty and hot than I would have in socks and shoes.”
After ditching the extra shoes, Anjali turned her attention to tight dresses, which she argued were not suitable for summer trips. “It’s just way too hot right now,” she stated.
“You’re gonna end up with sweat marks all over, it’s not gonna be good. What I’ll recommend instead is going for linen but in darker colours because it still feels formal but right now, where I am, it’s still like 29C even at seven or eight o’clock in the evening.”
She added: “Having something in a darker colour but still in a lightweight fabric like linen will make you feel so much more comfortable but still nice and dressed up.”
After discussing why bringing extra footwear and tight dresses was impractical, Anjali’s third suggestion of an item to leave behind might come as a surprise. According to the TikTok traveller, tote bags can stay at home.
She elaborated: “I love a shoulder bag or tote bag when I’m at home, it’s my preferred way of carrying everything around, especially in New York when I want to take everything with me for the day.
“I really recommend going with a crossbody instead because you’ll feel so much more comfortable being able to turn it around to the front, especially if you’re moving through train stations or anywhere crowded.
“Just being able to keep your hand on your belongings will make you feel a lot more comfortable with the pickpocket situation. But then also it’s nice to have the weight distributed over your body if you’re walking around all day.”
