Insane moment delivery driver rides e-bike down major UK motorway | UK | News

An insane moment shows a delivery driver on an e-bike casually riding down the M6 Motorway near Birmingham. A large Royal Mail lorry was seen slowing down before carefully overtaking a bike that was gliding along the slow lane.

Mobile phone footage captured the driver wearing his hood up during the incident, raising concerns about visibility and safety. The video was later shared on Facebook just after 7pm on Friday, November 21, drawing attention to the unusual and potentially risky situation on the road, reports Birmingham Live.

According to The Highway Code, e-bikes are strictly prohibited from being used on motorways because they are not designed to travel at the high speeds required to safely mix with fast-moving traffic.

Instead, they are permitted on other public roads, cycle paths, and certain shared spaces, provided they meet specific legal requirements such as having pedals, being powered by an electric motor with a maximum output of 250 watts, and not exceeding a top speed of 15.5mph.

These rules are in place to ensure that e-bikes remain safe for both riders and other road users, preventing them from becoming a hazard in environments where vehicles typically travel much faster.

West Midlands Police have been informed about the incident, which was captured in a 31-second video clip and quickly drew attention online.

The footage sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with viewers sharing mixed opinions. Some described the behavior as “brave but silly,” while others were more critical, calling the individuals involved “idiots.”

Another commenter speculated that the driver might have been relying on his truck’s navigation system, suggesting a possible explanation for the risky situation.
