Insane moment kayakers robbed by muggers on a Jet Ski | World | News
This is the surreal moment two alleged muggers on a jet ski hold up a couple out kayaking off Millionaire’s Beach in Brazil before speeding off with their wedding rings.
The alleged robbers attacked the pair with one of their own paddles near the shoreline. Footage of the daylight hold-up showed they were just 300 feet from the packed beach in Sao Vicente, a coastal resort in southern Sao Paulo, near several children playing in the water.
The shocking incident occurred on Sunday, and the culprits have not yet been identified. The victims live in the area and had decided to try out their recently bought kayak for the first time when they were targeted.
The alleged muggers are said to have destabilised the kayak by circling round it at speed before coming in nearer and assaulting them before taking the couple’s valuables.
The 47-year-old woman targeted, who asked not to be named, told Brazilian media: “They took advantage of the fact our kayak paddle had fallen into the water and began to hit my husband with it. I was in a state of panic.” She said the rings they stole were worth around £2,250.
The name for the beach where the incident occurred, Praia dos Milionarios in Portuguese, is said to originate from the rich cocoa plantation owners who once resided in large mansions along this stretch of coastline.
While the name suggests wealth, nowadays it’s a public beach regarded as a good family beach because there aren’t many waves and it is accessible to many people, not just the ultra-rich. Police say they’re aware of the mugging but no arrests have yet taken place.
