Inside Fergus Fraser’s real parents and Amelie Beauchamp in Outlander | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Outlander season 8, the Outlander novels and novella The Space Between by Diana Gabaldon

Outlander delivered a monumental revelation this week, which could transform everything for Fergus Fraser (played by César Domboy), reports the Daily Record.

Season eight, episode four of Outlander witnessed Percy Beauchamp (Michael Lindall) reveal to orphan Fergus that his mother was the noblewoman Amelie Beauchamp and that his father was the Comte St Germain (Stanley Weber).

When questioned about his illegitimate status, Percy presented Fergus with a copy of a marriage certificate concealed within the pages of an aged bible that verified he was born into French aristocracy and entitled to estates and a title.

Percy desired Fergus to claim his title and subsequently sell him a parcel of land in the New World, with the suggestion that France would transform it into their own colony.

Fergus was left torn and discussed the situation with his wife Marsali Fraser (Lauren Lyle) and it appeared he was hesitant to trust Percy as he remained uncertain of his true motivations.

Furthermore, Fergus wanted America to remain free from the dominion of European monarchs, whether it was an English sovereign or a French one.

Numerous Outlander fans are intrigued about Fergus’ mother. Here’s everything you need to know about Amelie Beauchamp.

According to Outlander author Diana Gabaldon’s novels and the novella The Space Between, Amelie was the elder sister of Claude Beauchamp, Baron Amandine, and Cecile Beauchamp. Percy wed Cecile and took on her family surname as his own – explaining his link to the family.

In the source material, Amelie had an affair with a married man – the Comte St. Germain – after he seduced her.

When she subsequently fell pregnant, the Comte had her wrapped up in a rug with some jewels and abandoned her in a brothel to give birth.

Following Fergus’ birth, Amelie was compelled into a life of prostitution and resented her son for it.

In the original text, Amelie died after a year from influenza, but in the show, she died when Fergus was a young child.

In devastating scenes, Fergus confessed that she had treated him with contempt before her death because he represented the life she had fallen into.

Meanwhile, Fergus’ father was the Comte St Germain, who featured in Outlander season two.

In Gabaldon’s novella, the Comte was a fellow time traveller like Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe).

The Comte was a mysterious Parisian aristocrat with unknown beginnings and is also known as ‘Paul Rakoczy’, which adds another layer of mystery.

This means that Fergus could potentially have the ability to time travel like the Comte St. Germain.

Thrown into all of this is the name Beauchamp, which is also Claire’s maiden name and hints that Fergus could actually be her ancestor, according to fan theories.

For the time being, Outlander enthusiasts will have to keep watching season eight to discover whether Fergus accepts Percy’s proposition and openly identifies himself as Claudel Beauchamp – and if the erstwhile Parisian street urchin is indeed a relative of Claire.

Outlander season 8 airs on Starz in the USA on Fridays and on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK on Saturdays
