Iran sends chilling threat as US peace talks near collapse – ‘You will pay heavy price’ | World | News
Iran has vowed to exact a “heavy price” on Israel after the latest attacks on Iranian territory, putting Donald Trump’s peace talks with Tehran in jeopardy. Iran Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi issued a strong-worded statement on Friday as the US President continues to point towards the ‘peace talks’ with Iran.
Mr Araghchi posted on X: “Israel has hit 2 of Iran’s largest steel factories, a power plant and civilian nuclear sites among other infrastructure. Israel claims it acted in coordination with the US. Attack contradicts POTUS extended deadline for diplomacy. Iran will exact HEAVY price for Israeli crimes”. The statement comes as the state media in Iran claimed that US-Israeli strikes have hit two nuclear-related facilities – the Khondab heavy water complex in north west Iran and the Yellowcake production facility in Ardakan, Yazd. However, no radioactive material has been released.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also warned employees of industrial sites in the region “that have American shareholders as well as heavy industries allied with the Zionist regime… to leave their workplaces immediately” as they vowed to carry out retaliatory attacks.
However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the US is “on the verge of achieving” its objectives in Iran, and said he expects the operation to last “weeks, not months”.
Speaking in Paris, Marco Rubio said it was “unacceptable” that Iran was talking about formalising its control over the Strait of Hormuz, including asserting a self-proclaimed right of sovereignty over this vital waterway and charging vessels to pass through it.
He told reporters: “There are some in the Iranian regime that are going around saying that they want to make the whole Strait of Hormuz tolling thing… permanent. The whole world should be outraged by it.”
