Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is ‘hiding in a bunker’ | World | News

Iran‘s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, is reportedly hiding in an underground bunker with his family. The Ayatollah is said to be in the Lavizan neighbourhood of the Iranian capital, Tehran. US President Donald Trump has said the United States knows Khamenei’s exact location but is letting him live “for now.”

Two sources inside Iran said all of Khamenei’s family are with him, including his son, Mojtaba. Khamenei was taken to the same place during two previous attacks on Iran by Israel, according to the sources. They told Iran International the Ayatollah’s family were taken to the same bunker during those two operations, in April and October last year.

News of Khamenei’s reported location comes as the Iranian leader lashed out at Mr Trump in his second public appearance since Israel launched attacks on Iran last Friday.

He dismissed Mr Trump’s “threatening and absurd statements” in a recorded video aired by state TV. He said: “Wise individuals who know Iran, its people and its history never speak to this nation with the language of threats, because the Iranian nation is not one to surrender.

“Americans should know that any military involvement by the US will undoubtedly result in irreparable damage to them.”

His comments came after Mr Trump demanded an “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER” in a post on his Truth Social platform.

The US president had initially distanced himself from Israel’s surprise attack, but in recent days, he has hinted at greater US involvement, saying he wants something “much bigger” than a ceasefire. Washington has also sent more military jets and warships to the Middle East.

An Iranian official warned on Wednesday (June 18) that US intervention would risk “all-out war”. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei didn’t go into further details, but thousands of US troops are based in nearby countries within range of Iran’s weapons. The US has threatened a massive response to any attack.

Meanwhile, another Iranian official said the country would keep enriching uranium for peaceful purposes, apparently ruling out Mr Trump’s demands that Iran give up its disputed nuclear program.

Israeli strikes have hit several nuclear and military sites, killing top generals and nuclear scientists. A Washington-based Iranian human rights group said at least 585 people, including 239 civilians, have been killed and more than 1,300 wounded.

Iran has fired some 400 missiles as well as hundreds of drones in retaliatory strikes, which have killed at least 24 people in Israel and wounded hundreds.
