‘I’ve visited all 50 countries in Europe – I’d never go back here’ | Europe | Travel

A traveller has revealed the worst country in Europe after dipping into all 50 nations across the continent. YouTuber Drew Binsky has travelled everywhere from Germany to Georgia, Latvia to Lithuania, but one country is at the bottom of the list.

He placed the Vatican City at 50th place, admitting he would never go back after exploring the smallest country in the world just once. He pointed out travellers could see the entire country, based in the middle of Rome, in just a few hours. Meanwhile, he also pointed out a series of issues including long queues and a lack of hotels for an overnight stay.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Drew said: “It is the Vatican City, the smallest country in the world with a population of 800 residents. Yes they do have their own passports, they have their own flag, they have their own currency. It is within Rome but it is an independent country with a seat in the UN. It’s amazing, I love the monuments there. It’s fascinating.

“The home of the Pope, you have the amazing St Peter’s Basilica, it’s one of the most historical places in the world for Catholicism, for just incredible history. But it’s so small, there are no hotels there so it’s impossible to stay overnight there… And it’s a place that you just visit for a few hours. The lines are so brutal so please go early or buy the fast pass tickets if you’re going to take a tour.

“I just think the Vatican is great to visit once, but when you visit it, it’s like the Grand Canyon, it’s amazing to visit once, but once you go once, you don’t have to go again.”

Tourism sites at the Vatican City include the world famous St Peter’s Balsica, home of the iconic Pietà statue built by Michelangelo.

The famous Sistine Chapel, also tainted by Michelangelo, can also be accessed on a visit to the Vatican Museums which will take a few hours with a tour guide.

From the UK, tourists can travel to Rome in just over two hours with return flights costing around £250 on average. When in Rome, the Vatican is just a short walk from the ‘Ottaviano–San Pietro–Musei Vaticani’ station on Metro line A.
