Jake Paul’s response after Gerwyn Price said he’d knock boxer out cold | Boxing | Sport

Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-professional boxer, left the ring on Saturday with a double broken jaw after six gruelling rounds against two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. However, the American could have faced an entirely different opponent, as top darts star Gerwyn Price boldly claimed he could knock out Paul with a single punch.

The Welsh ace, known for his on-stage confrontations, expressed his willingness to put on the gloves following a verbal spat between the pair. When questioned about the possibility of facing off against the 28-year-old former Disney Channel actor in the ring, Price responded confidently.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “That’s easy, I look forward to that. He’s a YouTuber, he’s not a fighter, is he? I think it would just be one punch, and it would be all over. Out cold.

“It would be a waste of money for people to tune in. He’ll never beat me in Wales. Nobody beats me in Wales. He’d probably beat Canelo but he’s not beating me, no.”

Paul, who is estimated to have earned around £70m from his lucrative bout with Joshua, was quick to respond privately, challenging ‘The Iceman’ to name his price for a potential showdown in the ring.

“He’s seen it and messaged me,” the 40-year-old revealed. “He wrote back to me and said, ‘Come to Greece, man. Just name a price.’ I don’t know why he’s in Greece.”

When asked if he had replied to Paul’s invitation, Price quipped: “I was a bit scared. No, I need to get some training in.”

Price, a former professional rugby player who made the switch to darts, is no stranger to combat sports. The Welsh star was set to participate in a charity boxing match in 2022 but withdrew following medical guidance.

His unexpected opponent, Paul, managed to defy expectations in Miami, surviving nearly six of the scheduled eight rounds against former Olympic gold medallist Joshua, who holds 29 professional victories, including triumphs over Wladimir Klitschko and Dillian Whyte.

Nevertheless, the bout was ultimately halted after Paul couldn’t beat the count following multiple knockdowns. The social media personality subsequently needed two titanium plates inserted and underwent several tooth extractions.

Whilst Paul was recuperating from his operation, former world champion Price endured his own humiliating knockout defeat at the hands of underdog Wesley Plaisier. Despite recording a superior average, the world number nine suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat in his World Championship second round clash.

Following the match, Price posted on Instagram to graciously commend his opponent and extend his best wishes for the remainder of the competition. He posted: “Absolutely gutted there had so much support which was amazing.

“Wesley was great at the right moments but I was way off and it showed, good luck to him and everyone else left in the tournament see you in 2026. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.”
